Modern sensing technologies increasingly require compact, stable, and reproducible optical systems capable of operating reliably outside controlled laboratory environments. Achieving such performance calls for new approaches to optical system design and assembly that go beyond traditional bulk optics.

The aim of this PhD project is the development of a resilient micro-integrated optical platform based on robotic assembly of optical components. The research focuses on creating compact optical systems that are inherently robust against misalignment, fabrication tolerances, and environmental perturbations, while maintaining high optical performance.

The work constitutes applied research, combining experimental optics, system design, and robotic fabrication. A central element of the project is the use of robot-assisted assembly and alignment of micro-optical components, supported by real-time optical feedback and optimization methods. The doctoral student will participate in the design of resilient optical architectures, development of assembly strategies, and experimental validation of stability and performance under realistic operating conditions.

A key objective is to establish a versatile and scalable platform for the rapid and scalable realization of compact optical systems. Potential applications include optical subsystems for quantum sensing and quantum technologies, as well as other precision measurement and photonic instrumentation tasks.
